Spotlight on: Corey Orlandos-Bearded Dragon!

Thats right folks, today we are going to tell you a little bit about our outback dwelling friend, Corey Orlandos. No, I don't mean the Corey you think I do, I mean our very own OC Fair oddity, Corey the one eyed Bearded Dragon!

Corey has been here with us for about 4 years now. He is of Australian origin, his ancestors being wild Bearded Dragons, or Pogona Vitticeps.  Bearded Dragons are named such for their habit of puffing out their throat and creating the illusion of a beard when they are provoked. Corey is an omnivour, eating mainly crickets, meal worms, and various types of greens (although he has been known to take down a pinkie on a good day!) Corey likes to spend his free time basking in his cage, hanging out with female beardies, and bobbing his head profusely to assert his dominance. Now, contrary to popular belief brought on by the movie Holes, Bearded dragons do not have frills or spit venom. They are quite docile creatures and are almost harmless. Feel free to stop by our booth at the fair to meet Corey and see what a lover he truely is. Just make sure you look into his good eye!

Wanna Party like the dinosaurs did?

I love it when I come in in the morning and a Jurassic Party is about to start!  There is so much excitement!!!!!  It makes the day so happy!  Kids wide eyed with anticipation, standing at the front door (we are open daily from 11-8 except Sundays) about to pop waiting for the presentation to begin!  I'm not quite sure if reptiles get excited, but they certainly seem to move around alot more while waiting for them to start!  If you haven't been to The Reptil Zoo in a while, you should definately come by, we have made more changes to this place than you could ever imagine, and if you are lucky enought o come by while a party is in progress, you will get to see first hand how it all goes down!  The presenter this morning is Nolan (see his bio http://blog.thereptilezoo.com/post/Meet-Nolan!.aspx)  and I am a=watching him run around like a mad man right now getting everything ready so that the party goes off with out a hitch!  They always do though!  We train our presenters from the first day they get here so that every Jurassic Party is better than the next!  They parties really are the most fun thing we do here, and everybody has a birthday right?  if not, you couldnt possibly even be reading this blog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  So, if you have a birthday on the way, or even if you don't and you just want to get your friends together for an amazing presentation that is educational and super fun!

Hope to see you and hear from you soon!

Lizards, Snakes, and DoDo Birds! Oh MY!

Another busy, busy day at the fair! If you havent come by to visit us yet then you are missing out! So much has happened here so far this year, I can't even name it all! Babies have been born, fears have been confronted, parties have been booked, you name it! We are having a ball, and it's all thanks to you, the lovely patrons of the OC Fair!

Today, we had a meeting with a crazy creature whom I believe to be the infamous DoDo Bird. It was an interesting experience, as this creature was thought to be extinct. The OC Fair proved science wrong once again though, and allowed us at Prehistoric Pets to meet one of our Prehistoric bretheren. Here is a photo of our newfound feathered friend:

And that, my friends, is what we call everyday life here at the Reptile Zoo!

Until next time (or until my next odd occurance)

Meet Armando & Juan!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to introduce you all to Armando and Juan, a father/son team working with us here at The Reptile Zoo.  Armando is our light weight, by far the smallest member of our staff, but big things come in small packages when it comes to ability, strength and heart!  Armando has been with the company for over 7 years and does all of our gigantic snake work.  He single handedly lifts and cares for the biggest and the best of all the snakes we have and does a great job of it!  Our largest and most precious breeders are always in his trustworthy hands.

Juan is new to The Reptile Zoo, but being the family business that we are, it is no suprize that he came here to work with us!  He is learning more and more everyday and hopefully one day he will be able to follow in his father's footsteps and have the great priviledge of handling some of the largest snakes in the world!

The Reptile Zoo is all about family, yours and ours!  Whether you are part of our staff, one of our regulars, new to the area looking for a great place to get your feeders, or visiting us from near or far because you have seen our awesome videos at  http://www.youtube.com/user/prehistoricpetstv we want you all to be family!

Come be a part of the great things we are doing and the great changes we are making!

Sabrina & the Tortoises

I wanted you all to be able to see this series of pictures of the cutest little girl that came to a Jurassic Party to celebrate her brother Rex's 5th birthday!  I got to do the presentation personally and when that happens you always get to know the family a little and bond with them, because you get to share a milestone in that family's life!  It really makes me proud to be a part of this company!  Rex had just finished reading a book all about snakes and reptiles, so he had an enormous amount of information already and helped by being my assistant at his own party.  His little sister Sabrina was so excited and overwhelmed by all of the animals and at her brother's party that she didn't know what to do.  In her heart and eyes I could see that she wanted to touch and hold all of them, but once presented with the opportunity she shied away pretty quickly, only to come back 5 minutes later to try again.  Wonder and positive stimulation is natural when it comes to children and animals and Sabrina was a perfect example of that!  In the end she ended up having a little bit more fun with a dinosaur finger puppet and a toy dragon-fly but I know she will come back and try again...  they always do!  Thanks to Sabrina and Rex for all the fun!

Much love and adventure to you all!

Meet Nolan!

In yet another blog introducing more of our awesome and eclectic staff here at the Reptile Zoo, I would like you all to meet Nolan.  Nolan is our resident rock climber, which comes in handy when dealing with those of the aboreal nature.  Nolan is always happy to climb up high and catch anything that might have gone out for a journey in the day!  Nolan has 4 boas and he takes his job very seriously here.  He is always available for parties and loves playing with kids that come into The Reptile Zoo.  Nolan's continuous positive attitude is an asset to The Reptile Zoo!  His main interest is breeding boas and playing with scorpions, eeeeek.  All you scorpion fans out there with any questions should give Nolan a shout and I'm sure he could answer any questions you might have on the matter. When Nolan is not climbing rocks, breeding boas or playing with deadly scorpions he likes to listen to Bone Thugs-n-Harmony..........

Thanks Nolan for all you do around here!

Old School!!!!!!!!! Meet Craig!

Not many of us have been around the reptile world as long as Craig, I guess you could say he was a herper before herpers were cool!  Craig knows so much that it is really ridiculous!  If you wanna tap into the venomous snake world, Craig is your guy for sure!  He has been tagged by a sidewinder, a green rock rattle snake, and even a gila monster and lived to tell the story!  Craig is the person to ask any question... about anything!  It's really amazing that with all the animals he has dealt with and handled throughout his life time that he is even still alive!

In his off time Craig likes to sneak goldfish into the sump pump of the turtle pond so that will grow big... then he brings them out and they are like gigantic... I don't know why he does it, but we all have our special quirks around the store!  When Craig is not at the shop living the glamorous life of reptile enthusiast, he likes to watch Nat Geo and SpongeBob SquarePants.  haha  Craig has worked here for over 16 years and we hope and pray that he is here forever!

Craig does so much stuff around the shop that without him we would surely suffer!  Craig in an important part of our reptile family ecosystem here and we love him so very much!  Thanks Craig for all you do!
