It's Been a Month Already?!?!?!

I can't believe it either, but it has already been a month since our last day at the OC Fair! It seems like just yesterday we were enjoying the crowds and the smells of Juicy's right across the way.

We had such a blast this year sharing our reptiles with HUNDREDS THOUSANDS of happy families enjoying a day out together. Our team spent so much time together they became like family sharing the ups and downs of 12+ hours of fair time fun a day! As you can see from the photos at times we might have gone a little loopy, but every family has a crazy one or two right?

While you are at the Orange County Fair nothing says family bonding time like getting wrapped up by a HUGE burmese python! And this year we literaly THOUSANDS of families enjoy this hands-on fun.

Thanks to the wonders of technology for the first time they even had the opportunity to share the squeal inducing photos with friends and family through our complimentary Facebook download service! Each night we added every photo an album on The Reptile Zoo Facebook then it was the guests turn to tag, comment, like, and download their shots.

Hopefully all of our brave visitors have gotten a chance to like, share, and tag their photos with our lovely burmese pythons. Because on Monday to make room for even more great hands-on photos in the future we will be removing many of the photos.

To keep your photo from being removed make sure to stop by our photo albums to like, tag and download and we will be sure to keep you as a permanent part of The Reptile Zoo memories from 2012! Otherwise unclaimed photos will be removed to make room for the great events we have planned next!

Expanding Behind the Scenes

Remember when we said we were finally demolishing the “Gauntlet” to make room for a brand new breeding room… that day might not be here quite yet, but we are getting closer. Just look at the expansion we have planned!

If you think that’s beginning to look impressive just check out the numbers. In the new breeding wing will be a 1000 sq ft facility housing 147 full size breeding cages plus 3 huge new incubators!

Not only will these new enclosures be the best of the best for our animals, custom designed by Jay Brewer from his over 30 years’ experience in breeding and keeping large pythons. They are also going to be a very exciting one-of-a-kind view experience for all guests to The Reptile Zoo. As they have designed it guests will be able to look into the behind the scenes action and even be a part of the egg hatching experience.

It may look like we are already done, but we have plenty left to do! Just check out all the work it took to get this far!

It takes a dedicated and passionate team and to make these dreams come true, but luckily we have that team! Everyone has been pitching in to help wherever needed, even late into the night.

As you can tell founder Jay Brewer and breeding manager Tim O’Reilly are more than a little excited about the big plans they have in-store for you.

Check back in the next couple months to see our progress and hopefully we will have the breeding room of our dreams completed and on display by the next time you visit The Reptile Zoo!

THIS WEEKEND: Jay Brewer at SOS² Reptile Expo

Last week we let you know founder Jay Brewer was travelling with some of his team to South Africa where he would be enjoying the sites and native wildlife, but for those in South Africa we left the best part out. This weekend you can come meet him and check out some of our unique pythons at the 2012 SOS² Reptile Expo!

This is Jay's first time visiting the expo, which is in it's 10th year as the leading South African Reptile Expo. This year it will be held at the Emperor's Palace in Kempton Park centrally located near Johannesburg International airport. Visit SOS² this Saturday and Sunday, the 5th and 6th of May between 9 AM - 4 PM for your chance to view and even take home some of the best reptiles the South African reptile community has to offer!

Jay has been excited for this trip, and especially this expo for months! South Africa is one of his favorite places to visit and he is looking forward to finally meeting the whole reptile community and sharing Prehistoric Pets one of a kind boas, burmese and reticulated pythons that have been previously unavailable in South Africa!

We have been luck enough to partner with organizer Arno Naude to set-up a permanent distributor relationship within the country, just like our friends The Reptile Room in Europe. We have sent Arno a great selection of animals, which if not all snatched up at this weekend's expo, will continue to be available within the country.

If you live in the area make sure to stop by this weekend's event it is sure to be filled with the best animals South Africa has to offer and plenty of great people to meet. If you happen to see Jay while you're there be sure to stop him and say hello he always loves a good chat about animals, especially the new reticulated python projects we are working on right now!

Don't forget that's Saturday and Sunday 9AM-4PM SOS² Reptile Expo at Emperor's Palace in Kempton Park! See you there!

Lighting It Up at Prehistoric Pets and The Reptile Zoo

When you're part of the Prehistoric Inc team, you never know what you're going to show up at work. After just a couple hours off I came back to a completely updated and lighted retail area in Prehistoric Pets plus a new display case in The Reptile Zoo!

Sometimes I think it must be little magic elves helping these project get done, which is partially right.

Over the years Prehistoric team has grown to include a huge network of friends who are happy to volunteer their spare time to make our big dreams come true and this time was no different. When it comes to construction Jay loves to work with his friends like Todd, Lance, and Buck who have each been major factors to completing this project.

Construction here has been pushed into overdrive as Jay makes his final preparations for his trip to Africa where he will be getting some great footage in Kruger National Park and visiting a local reptile breeders show. We're just glad the flight is 22 HOURS so he can finally get some rest! Becuase you know he won't rest until the shop is taken care of and all of his cool fossil finds have a beautiful place to be displayed.

Since this project is coming to a close we're already steaming towards the next which will increase accessibility in our retail area as well as provide a new cleaning station for staff to care for all of these great animals. Next time you see us the wall below will have dissapeared to make room for the crowds and new additions in Prehistoric Pets.

Want to see the construction in action? Be sure to stop by Prehistoric Pets or The Reptile Zoo or even better you can stay at home and miss out on the dust by checking out our updated videos on our YouTube page at www.YouTube.com/PrehistoricPetsTV

Ewe Rock! at the Youth Expo 2012

This weekend thousands of families braved the storm and enjoyed the annual Youth Expo at the Orange County Fairgrounds. We love this event because first of all its FREE fun for the whole family... how many places can you still find that? We also love it's focus on education this year adding a college fair for hundreds of anxious highschoolers planning their next steps.

Of course guests went crazy for our interactive reptile booth where we displayed just a glimpes into all of the exotic animals on display at The Reptile Zoo. With Ball Pythons, Ratsnakes, and Bearded Dragons there were plenty of reasons why our booth was filled to the brim the whole weekend, but the crowd favorite had to be the huge African Spur Thigh Tortoises.

If the live animals weren't enough guests got a kick out of our big Dino friend. Taking a second to pose for photos while he showed his toothy grin.

Some of our visitors were so enchanted by the reptiles they could barely stand to leave, but we let them know that not only are they cool to look at reptiles actually make great low maintenance pets, which definitely perked them up.

Visitors even recieved a special offer for admission to the continually expanding zoo. They were excited and shocked to learn about our most recent additions like Darthvader the American Alligator, TWINKIE the World's Largest Snake, 5 California Native Rattlesnakes and don't forget Thelma & Louise the Two-Headed Snake.

Did you miss out? The Prehistoric Adventures team can bring the traveling Reptile Zoo to a town near you creating a one of a kind display for all types of events. These Prehistoric Pets can even come right to your house or school for a Jurassic Party presentation. Check out the details online at www.JurassicParties.com and www.PrehistoricAdventures.com
