Why not do everything at once??

As our SPOOKY Masquerade party is getting closer...Jay is eager to get as much renovation done as possible!

We are still making progress on the alligator enclosure, cementing the finishing touches on the basin floor before we test water in it.  Its coming together quite smoothly and we are very excited to see the end result!

If any of you came in to Prehistoric Pets yesterday, you would have seen our newest renovation happening live!  We gave the old yucky floor behind our front counter a nice, attractive, THICK layer of cement as well.  Although our employees had to literally sit on the counter to fill orders while the floor dried, the result was worth it!

We are also continuing work on the new Caiman Lizard enclosure right inside the zoo.  It is looking fantastic!  Just look at how many people we need for this job...

Jay thinks these will be completed by our party date (Oct 30th)....what do you guys think??

With all the effort and hard work going into this...it can be done.  So make sure to attend our Spooky Costume Party at the Zoo (Sunday Oct 30th, 5-10pm) and see for yourselves!

Where, oh where, has everyone gone??

Don't worry, we still have a steady stream of customers and guests...and animals...but where have our employees gone??

There is A LOT going on right now, and some of our key players are out on a mission!

For starters...Sam is running around like CRAZY trying to get a shipment of snakes ready for the airport.  They are headed to a very excited buyer.  :-D   There is a lot of paperwork though, and a lot of preparations...

Garrett, our go-to reptile retail guy, is on his way to the UK right NOW.  He's headed to Germany for the annual Snake Day Convention.  This is a big-time show, for ALL of Europe...thousands of people attend every year, even from all around the world!  Events like this allow us to get our name out there, and bring in LOTS of information about suppliers, other retailers, breeders, and potential buyers.

Also, our very own fearless leader, Jay...is trying to make his way to Chicago, for the NARBC in Tinley.  There has been a bit of trouble with the flights...but he's working on it.  The NARBC here in Anaheim was AWESOME this year, and there were SO many people....so again, a fantastic way to get our name out there even more!

So, those of us who are left here are holding down the fort, and keeping everything running very smoothly.  We are still working on our Alligator enclosure, and even a new Caiman Lizard enclosure.  They are going to be so awesome.  Keep checking back for more updates!

So...what's new in the Zoo? A LOT!!

We try to keep you guys updated pretty well on what happens day-to-day here at Prehistoric Pets...so let's take a second to recap.

I just updated everyone on how well the alligator enclosure is coming along...we are just about a month away from completion!! Everyone here is SO excited because this is our biggest and most detailed yet....even bigger than Twinkie's! We had some of the guys clean it up a bit today, to get ready for painting and final preparations. Here are some "so far" pics for you:

GREAT work everyone!!

We also just got a new shipment of everyone's favorite gecko...the crested! We have some WAYYYY cool ones too, come check them out!!

There are the Red Harlequins (sweet) that range from $149.99 to $249.99

Even some Gargoyle Geckos (super cool) for $89.99

"Checkin' out my reflection..."

"Where's Waldo?"

Plus there is also a beautiful assortment of normal Cresteds with awesome coloring.

Perhaps the most excitement, however, is about a very special Asian Water Monitor named Frank. He has been a workaholic lately...Jay has been taking him to and from L.A. every week to film a new Disney Channel TV series!!!

"Jessie" will premier tonight on the Disney Channel at 9pm...so be sure to check it out to see Frank as the lovable little trouble-maker, Mr. Kipling. We are SO excited!

With all this craziness going on, we are still the same old awesome place to come have a party, feed turtles & tortoises, touch and hold snakes, and just check out some very RARE reptiles...so be sure to stop by!

See you soon!

Update....

Things are moving along very well now for our Alligator & Snapping Turtle enclosure. We had a crew in today that did an awesome job cementing the inside of the tank, it looks fantastic! The glass is drying steadily, and we will be able to fill it with water right on schedule.

They did a wonderful job molding the cement into "rock-like" formations, and shaping it to look like the rest of the surroundings. Soon they will be painting everything and putting on the final touches!!

BEFORE

AFTER

We are all very excited for the final outcome. I even heard talk about exotic FISH?!?!?!? I shall keep you updated as more information flows in! For now...comment us on Facebook and give your feedback, suggestions, and ideas!!! Peace out home slices....

Munchkin Land!

No, we are not overrun with kids....they are in school. Duh.

Haha, I'm talking about tiny snakes! Well, tiny for a retic. There has been a bit of an upsurge lately in popularity of the Super Dwarf Reticulated Python...and we have some wicked awesome ones!! Jay, Tim, and Garrett have been working on some really awesome breeding projects, including some super dwarfs that will have you itching to get your hands on.

This featured YouTube vid is NEW, so make sure to subscribe! The three musketeers show us a BIG beautiful clutch from a Super Dwarf het Amel cross. She's actually Twinkie's sister! (Twinkie is an Amel)

So, from this SEVEN pound snake momma, we got a clutch so HUGE that it resembled that of a ball python! Sweet! Check back soon for details on the babies, and other super dwarf projects soon to come!

Here are some examples of the super dwarfs we currently have for sale: (www.prehistoricpets.com)

100% Super Dwarf - the smallest it gets for retics! ($400)

Its FINALLY happening!! The countdown is on!!

Ok, so maybe we are roughly 500 days behind schedule...but we are finally putting the finishing touches on our Alligator & Snapping Turtle enclosure! I told you guys a few weeks ago that we had acquired the glass, and it came in just a couple days ago. Well, last night, Jay and his crew actually started putting in the pieces and we got some awesome pics and video.

The glass is INSANE. Three pieces have been put in, and they are 3 1/4, laminated, 300 lb monsters! Not only are they heavy to lift, but they are tough to install. Here are some pics from the crew's "workout"....

Once the glue was applied, it was almost a race against time to lift, correctly place, and PUSH the pieces into place. Just check out this effort and teamwork...

....and they haven't even gotten to the BIGGEST piece yet...a 600lb WHOPPER!!

Take a look at the finished half of the enclosure....you can almost visualize how awesome its gonna be!

Great job everyone!! We are so excited for the finished product!!

But remember zoo-goers...no touching!

SO EXCITED!!!

HELLLLP!!!

Emergency! (kind of)

If you don't know already...we have upgraded our tiny little party cars! We recently purchased 5 brand new Kia Souls from Kia Car Pros in Huntington Beach. They are awesome to drive, very smooth, we like them a lot.

HOWEVER, they are all white...and frankly, they blend in with the crowd WAY too much. So, our very own Laura Brewer has come up with a few ideas for wrapping the car. These are the first ideas, and we have more coming...but we just wanted to see what the public thought about them. I have attached the pics, and if you guys like any of them, just email us, call the store, comment this blog, or post a comment on any of our facebook pages, anything! PLUS, if you guys have any great ideas for wraps, give us a holler too! We would LOVE some feedback.

Here is what we have so far...

FEEDBACK! We love it. What are your faves? What should we have on them instead??

How Many Enchis??

Let's throw another blog in today...you guys don't mind right? :-D

We have been featuring several YouTube videos about pulling clutches...how about one for opening a clutch?? In this video, Jay, Tim, and Garrett (well, mostly Garrett) cut a unique ball python clutch. A normal ball was bred to an "enchi" ball.

....a what???

The Enchi Ball Python is a genetic mutation discovered by Lars Brandell in 2002. They were named for the region of Africa in which they were discovered (Petros 2011). The Enchis have golden yellow sides and a greatly reduced pattern of dark pigmentation and faded saddles.

As you can tell from the video, it was very exciting for the guys to see mostly Enchis hatching out, because that means we can breed them later on for even cooler morphs! Check it out!

Also, check out www.prehistoricpets.com to see the cool morphs we have for sale!!
