Going Once, Going Twice……SOLD!

So have we said enough about our BIG EVENT this weekend??

NO!

There is a HUGE Masquerade Benefit Auction happening RIGHT NOW, on our Reptile Zoo Facebook Page. There are tons of donations from ExoTerra, ZooMed, Repashy, Prehistoric Pets, frequent customers, as well as our own Sam, Katy, Linda, and Mike.

This is our FIRST ANNUAL online auction to support Forever Wild Exotic Animal Sanctuary and The Reptile Zoo. Check Facebook each day this week for new auctions leading up to our special event at The Reptile Zoo in Fountain Valley, CA on October 30th!

The auction has begun, and will end at 9:00 PM PDT on October 30.

All posts should include only your bid in US dollars at least $5 above the previous bid. All negative, defamatory, & off topic comments will be immediately removed and blocked at the sole discretion of Prehistoric Inc. All bidders must be at least 18 years old. All bids are final and cannot be removed, edited, or replaced.

Bid does not include the shipping cost of $55. Animals can be shipped within the United States and to the next Hamm Germany show. If you are not within the US or able to pick-up the animal at Hamm email info@prehistoricinc.com for pricing and availability before bidding.

Please be aware of all local, state & federal requirements regarding ownership of the animal you are bidding on. Prehistoric Inc. is not liable or responsible for failure to meet these regulations.

Any bids after the action close will not be accepted unless an endurance challenge is activated.* The winner will be determined by the highest bid placed before the auction close. If more than 1 bid at the winning price was placed at the close of the auction the first bid wins.

*If 5 minutes before the auction close there is more than 1 bid per minute the auction will become an endurance challenge. The auction will no longer end at the noted time, but when no new bids are placed for 5 minutes. Bidders can only win an endurance challenge by outlasting the competition in a bidding war.

At the end of the auction a payment link will be added to www.prehistoricpets.com to complete the transaction. Users who fail to provide payment within 24 hours of the auction close will forfeit the offer and be blocked from future auctions.

All products/animals are sold as shown and cannot be transferred, traded, or returned.

SHIPPING TERMS: Prehistoric Pets assures that the animal(s) purchased will arrive to the destination healthy. On the date of delivery, it is the responsibility of the customer to be at the "Ship To" address. If the shipment is not received at first delivery attempt, all expressed warranties are null and void. Prehistoric Pets is not responsible or liable for shipping address errors due to customer negligence. Animals will not be left at a shipping address without a receipt signature. We ship through UPS overnight with most deliveries by 10:30am the following day. We ship Monday through Thursday for next day delivery.

Many of the items are being bid upon for WAY less than what they are worth, so JUMP ON IT! If the bid goes high, remember that you are supporting not only OUR zoo animals, but also Forever Wild (and they REALLY need your help right now!).

The auction is online only, but for those of you that are coming out to the event, we have tons of prizes, giveaways, and raffle items for you! I, myself, have even donated a couple things for the in-store portion. We all are feeling the desire to help the cause!

So, be sure to check out our auction on The Reptile Zoo Facebook page, place some bids, get in on the action!! Plus, if you are local, don’t forget to stop by this Sunday from 5-10pm for some AWESOME excitement, costumes, and possible free stuff!!

See you there!! (I’ll be the angel, haha)

Its FINALLY happening!! The countdown is on!!

Ok, so maybe we are roughly 500 days behind schedule...but we are finally putting the finishing touches on our Alligator & Snapping Turtle enclosure! I told you guys a few weeks ago that we had acquired the glass, and it came in just a couple days ago. Well, last night, Jay and his crew actually started putting in the pieces and we got some awesome pics and video.

The glass is INSANE. Three pieces have been put in, and they are 3 1/4, laminated, 300 lb monsters! Not only are they heavy to lift, but they are tough to install. Here are some pics from the crew's "workout"....

Once the glue was applied, it was almost a race against time to lift, correctly place, and PUSH the pieces into place. Just check out this effort and teamwork...

....and they haven't even gotten to the BIGGEST piece yet...a 600lb WHOPPER!!

Take a look at the finished half of the enclosure....you can almost visualize how awesome its gonna be!

Great job everyone!! We are so excited for the finished product!!

But remember zoo-goers...no touching!

SO EXCITED!!!

Featured YouTube Video!

This week, we are bringing you another new video...one of a gorgeous momma snake! She is a BIG beautiful Tiger Titanium retic that was bred to a Platinum het Titanium. Jay, Tim, and Mike discuss the physical attributes of the eggs, and how you can tell a "slug" (infertile egg) from a good egg.

Each clutch is its own genetics lesson...with complicated ratios and possible outcomes. This clutch was predicted to produce not only Tiger Titaniums and the coveted Platinum Titaniums ("Silver Surfers"), but also Tiger Titanium Platinums. Hmmmmmm....

Tiger Titanium Example:

After removing all of the eggs, Jay shows his technique for checking the snake for more eggs. This is his way of palpating (examining by touch) the mother to ensure nothing was missed and she can be fed.

So, these eggs have hatched now, and I heard that we received "some of the nicest" Silver Surfers that our guys have seen. If you are interested in seeing the "baby pictures" and possibly purchasing one of your own, just check out our website:

www.prehistoricpets.com (or the PP tab at the top)

and email garrett@jurassicparties.com for more information. They are awesome!!

Two CRAZY clutches...

Good evening reptile fans....time for some awesome news!

I got to be up-close and personal for the pulling of two retic clutches that Jay is SUPER excited about.  It was very cool to witness first hand, not only how dangerous pulling clutches is (with the female striking at your every move), but also how delicate you must be.  Jay took great care to handle the group of eggs all at once and pull them apart very gently.  After counting, they were off to incubation.  Video was taken and will be up soon...as for now, enjoy the pics that I took.

The first clutch is from a Platinum and a Tiger Anthrax....

The second is from a Tiger Titanium and a Sunfire Genetic Stripe....

22 eggs in BOTH clutches....and we can't wait to see what is produced!  Check back in 3 months for an update!!!

Rats and Rattlesnakes....

Hey guys...it's about time that you meet Mike McConnell.

Mike makes sure that our vast collection of snakes stays well-fed and healthy.  He also takes great care of the FOOD....our rats, that we breed in-store, making sure they have food and fresh water, and that the babies are doing well.

He has a big interest in all inverts...especially Ornamental Tarantulas, which he breeds at his home.  On average he probably has around 30 tarantulas.  Mike also has great appreciation for venomous snakes, as well as local species of snakes.  His favorite "would probably have to be the Western Diamondback Rattlesnake".  It is enjoyment for him to work with or near venomous...except when a Sidewinder Rattlesnake decides to snag him in the finger (at a friend's home, not in-store)....he lost his left middle finger last January.

Other than being one finger down, Mike is a great employee...very knowledgable and hard-working.  So come in and say hi...you will probably learn some cool facts that you didn't know before!

Get to know Mike!

Hey there herpers...I would like to introduce you to Mike Jim, one of our new reptile wranglers.

He started not too long ago, and has been involved in a lot of Ball Python breeding for us here at The Zoo.  He even has a favorite morph...the Pastave Ghost (pictures below).  It is beautiful!  He has also started doing parties, both in and out of the store.  He knows a lot about what he does, and works super hard...always looking for ways to help out.

So, come down to visit us, or even just book a party, and you might happen across Mike!

World's Only Redneck Boa

Okay, so it's not really a Boa but Mike seems to be spending alot of time in the cages, fixing them of course. Mike is responsible for all of the construction and improvements in The Reptile Zoo, he built Twinkie's cage, has done all the amazing rock work, and does any repairing of cages we need. He's been here for over a year and all the fixing still isn't done! He's done a great job at everything, if you see him around give him a high five or something for all his hard work :)
