It's been a long time coming, but we are happy to say our decked out Jurassic Party vehicles are making a comeback in a huge way decked out in our custom designed reptile theme! Ewe Rock! at the Youth Expo 2012

This weekend thousands of families braved the storm and enjoyed the annual Youth Expo at the Orange County Fairgrounds. We love this event because first of all its FREE fun for the whole family... how many places can you still find that? We also love it's focus on education this year adding a college fair for hundreds of anxious highschoolers planning their next steps.

Of course guests went crazy for our interactive reptile booth where we displayed just a glimpes into all of the exotic animals on display at The Reptile Zoo. With Ball Pythons, Ratsnakes, and Bearded Dragons there were plenty of reasons why our booth was filled to the brim the whole weekend, but the crowd favorite had to be the huge African Spur Thigh Tortoises.

If the live animals weren't enough guests got a kick out of our big Dino friend. Taking a second to pose for photos while he showed his toothy grin.

Some of our visitors were so enchanted by the reptiles they could barely stand to leave, but we let them know that not only are they cool to look at reptiles actually make great low maintenance pets, which definitely perked them up.

Visitors even recieved a special offer for admission to the continually expanding zoo. They were excited and shocked to learn about our most recent additions like Darthvader the American Alligator, TWINKIE the World's Largest Snake, 5 California Native Rattlesnakes and don't forget Thelma & Louise the Two-Headed Snake.

Did you miss out? The Prehistoric Adventures team can bring the traveling Reptile Zoo to a town near you creating a one of a kind display for all types of events. These Prehistoric Pets can even come right to your house or school for a Jurassic Party presentation. Check out the details online at www.JurassicParties.com and www.PrehistoricAdventures.com

New addition to the parties....YAY!

Jurassic Fact of the Week YA'LL....

I am VERY excited because we just got new cornsnakes for the in-store parties....and they are HUGE! Biggest I have ever seen....monster cornsnakes dude.

Cornsnakes are commonly found in cornfields and open pastures of the U.S. and usually grow to 4-5 feet at the most. There are around 25 known color morphs of cornsnakes and thousands of compound morphs, just like other snakes.

Here are the two normal albinos that we just got(lacking the black rings around their saddle markings).

HUGE!

Thats not the coolest part though...in that donated group we also got an Anerythristic Cornsnake. The "normal", or wildtype, cornsnake has deep red saddle marks with black rims down its back, on top of an orange background. The term "anerythristic" means a lack of erythrin, which are the red, yellow, and orange pigments. This yields a snake that is commonly black and gray. COOL! Well, cool for me...only having ever seen the normal and normal albino morphs.

Check him out!

Cornsnakes have a naturally docile temperament, and make wonderful pets, especially for first-time herpers. They can be a little snippy when young, but that is their instinctive tendency to defend against everything. The more gentle handling, the better they will become...and they will no longer see you as a threat.

I love the orange cornsnakes, but seeing a different color is WAY cool. Come check him out...we named him GHOST. Maybe Ghost will haunt your next Jurassic Party....muahahahahahah.

JFW...its what we do

Many people forget about one of the cutest little critters that we bring to our parties.  They are a big hit in the handling area of our Zoo...several young guests have even named them.

So, for this Jurassic Fact of the Week, what small lizard is covered in spots???

LEOPARD GECKOS!   YAYYYYYY!

I love them...don't you??  They are so sweet and gentle, and aren't their tails just awesome?  Leopard Geckos have a naturally FAT tail...it not only stores fat, but serves as a huge defense.  When a predator is near, that tail looks mighty tasty, so they usually bite there first.  The Leopard Gecko will POP it off, and run away to safety!  But thats not all.....they then grow a NEW one!  How cool is that?  I want to grow a tail......

Leopard Geckos always get an "Awwwwwwww" when they come out to be handled.  They are adorable, very tame, and usually have awesome colors.  They make wonderful pets too!  These guys are from the desert areas of Pakistan, so they DO need more heat than most geckos, but other than that, its VERY easy.  They eat crickets and worms with plenty of calcium on top, and their little tiny claws are so small that there is no worry of boo-boos!  We have plenty at our shop right now, so come check them out....Christmas is right around the corner!!!

Now isn't that a face you want to take home to Mom???

Its going to be SO awesome.  Lucky Caimans.

We are still moving forward on our Alligator & Snapping Turtle enclosure as well.  We have gotten it cleaned out, those of you who come to our zoo a lot know about all the clutter that was in there, haha.  Now we just need to paint and install the rest of the glass!  YAY!

We are also cleaning house, getting everything extra neat and tidy for our super spectacular awesome outrageous SPOOKY Masquerade Party this Sunday!!!!  Everyone is working SUPER hard this week especially, we want everything to be ready!

There is a TON of cool stuff happening, including exotic animals from Forever Wild (a lion cub, YAY!), games, door prizes, raffles, food, contests, giveaways, and CANDY!  Its going to be CRAZY fun!  Plus, partial proceeds go to the Forever Wild Animal Sanctuary and Reptile Rescue Orange County...its a win-win!!

Also, come enjoy all the regular amenities we have, like feeding turtle and fish (look for a coupon from your Brookhurst Pumpkin Patch visit); holding snakes, geckos, and bugs; viewing RARE, exotic, even one-of-a-kind creatures; and of course, shopping for that new family PET!  (and everything that goes with it!)

I can't wait....so if you are eager to see what we have accomplished...if you are looking for a good scare...or if you just want a chance to win free stuff....come to Prehistoric Pets this Sunday from 5-10pm, for an awesome adventure in The Reptile Zoo!!

It will be unforgettable!

Why not do everything at once??

As our SPOOKY Masquerade party is getting closer...Jay is eager to get as much renovation done as possible!

We are still making progress on the alligator enclosure, cementing the finishing touches on the basin floor before we test water in it.  Its coming together quite smoothly and we are very excited to see the end result!

If any of you came in to Prehistoric Pets yesterday, you would have seen our newest renovation happening live!  We gave the old yucky floor behind our front counter a nice, attractive, THICK layer of cement as well.  Although our employees had to literally sit on the counter to fill orders while the floor dried, the result was worth it!

We are also continuing work on the new Caiman Lizard enclosure right inside the zoo.  It is looking fantastic!  Just look at how many people we need for this job...

Jay thinks these will be completed by our party date (Oct 30th)....what do you guys think??

With all the effort and hard work going into this...it can be done.  So make sure to attend our Spooky Costume Party at the Zoo (Sunday Oct 30th, 5-10pm) and see for yourselves!

Rattlesnake Tuesday

This Tuesday is a very special day for us here at The Reptile Zoo. It's the official unveiling of the Rattlesnakes. There will be four species of Rattlesnakes open for the public to view. The four species are the Western Diamondback, Southern Pacific, Southwestern Speckled and the Colorado Desert Sidewinder. This is an important step for us here and we invite everyone to come down and celebrate with us. There will be lots of fun including Joel from Forever Wild, who will be here with an assortment of special animals. He will have with him some surprising animals including an alligator and a snapping turtle. These will be a sneak peak of what's to come once we finish construction on our alligator and snapping turtle enclosures. We've been looking forward to this event for a long time and hope everyone can come down and have some close encounters with some truly remarkable exotic animals.
