October Celebrations with Prehistoric Adventures

Fall is here and so are some of the best Pumpkin Patches around, packed to the brim with fun activities for all! A place for families, friends, or even a date night, this atmosphere is the bee's knees.

For the first time ever we are bringing our mobile Reptile Zoo to the pumpkin patch to add to the spooky fun. You can find us and all of our reptile friends in both Fountain Valley and La Habra at Santa's Garden pumpkin patch.

These pumpkin patches advertises huge, inflatable slides, bounce houses, fire engine train rides and more! You can slide down the Tiger's Mouth or swoosh down the Ship under an Octopus Attack.

But this year's fashion is to have a live, 10 foot snake wrapped around your body, offering a big smile with you in a forever-memorable picture!

As you can see, we have a pen set up for our African spurred tortoises, which you can feed for just three tickets! You can also see we have a full sized iguana, two monitor lizards, and a pancake tortoise.

We also have a rock python, yellow footed tortoises, reticulated pythons and a two hundred and fifty pound reticulated python.

We have lots of other animals set up with an adorable pumpkin theme.

Come see reptiles from around the globe, hold pythons, skinks, and even a scorpion (if you're feeling adventurous).  So come stop by our scenic and fantastic pumpkin patch and start your October with smiles, laughs, and memories.

South African Photo Safari

FINALLY Founder Jay Brewer and the Prehistoric Inc. team have returned from their travels to South Africa! While they were there they kept busy visiting much of South Africa including Kruger National Park, Prehistoric Pets distributor Arno Naude, as well as the 2012 SOS² Reptile Expo where they got to see the exciting and growing reptile community of South Africa. We decided to keep today's blog text light and photo heavy, because photos of animals this majestic can do the talking all on their own! Check back in the coming weeks for video and even more photos from their trip !

Photoshoot Elements

Ever wonder what it goes into a professional photoshoot? You may think it's the photographer, but the number one thing you must have is A LOT of teamwork.

Photoshoots involve a great photographer, a leader with a vision of what pictures you need, patient models, and a good team ready to help all of these people. Not to say photoshoots aren't fun, especially when you are photographing kids and animals there are bound to be plenty of hilarious moments when one of the two are bound to have a silly moment.

Luckily we have a great team of friends ready and willing to help us get the best shots possible. Our go to photographer and long-time friend is Mike Walker who not only captures great shots, but loves reptiles too. We love his shots so much he'll be travelling with founder Jay Brewer on his trip this summer to Australia to capture their experiences!

We are also so lucky to have plenty of friends willing to donate their time and act as our models.

One of our favorite parts of a photoshoot are the behind the scenes moments that don't make it to the final cut or out to the public, but today we are going to share just a few so we can have a chance to thank all of those who have worked behinds the scenes making some of our best shots possible.

Faces in Support of Reptiles

Hundreds of visitors enjoy The Reptile Zoo and all of it's creatures each week, over 16,000 reptile presentations completed by Jurassic Parties alone, and thousands of reptiles are responsibly kept as pets across the United States, but somehow these people, these faces, are overlooked and demonized for their support of reptiles. At The Reptile Zoo we are ready to put a face to these supporters of the reptile community and use these faces to garner support for the protection of these species.

On The Reptile Zoo's Twitter and Facebook pages we will be posting a daily image of people from every walk and stage of life who have benefited from their interaction with these beautiful creatures. Below are just a sampling of the photos to come. We invite you to join our mission by posting your pictures, sharing your stories, and spreading the support for reptiles and their keepers.

The Money Shot!

We have a photo booth here at the Reptile Zoo and I have to tell you guys that I never realized that photography was such hard work!!!!!  Throw 3 kids plus animals all together in one photo and it takes click after click after click to get just the right shot!  It's always fun, don't get me wrong, but the fact of the matter is the animals are way more fun to look at than the photographer, add to that a mom standing behind that photographer trying to get them to smile, and not fake smile, leads to pic after pic that's not perfect, and then finally one that is.  In this era of photoshop, and other editing tools, I thought you guys might like to see some raw photos encompassing a few of the funnier situations that eventually lead to the money shot!

Much Love
