Kerry King from Slayer

Hey guys!

Just wanted to keep you all up to date as to the goings on around here at The Reptile Zoo!  Kerry King from Slayer came to see Tim and Jay the other day, and we (Kayla & I) being Slayer fans were super excited!  Jay and Tim on the other hand have known him for years.  Kerry also brought a former Prehistoric Pets employee from way back in the day named Todd, Jay said that Todd helped Jay to assemble his retic collection, the one that is still being used today to breed some of the most beautiful and one of a kind snakes in the world.  Vince showed him a few of our baby sulfur monitors and they checked out a few other snakes and all in all it was a really exciting visit!

Thanks so much for coming by Kerry!  Hope we get to see you again real soon!  Bring us some of your carpet pythons so we can have a peek at them!

much love

John Wayne is Gravid!

Hey Guys!

I have exciting news! I do believe that our very favorite Ameva here at the Reptile Zoo is gravid!  His name is, or was rather, John Wayne... I guess you could be a girl named John Wayne couldn't you?  And we are gonna have a ton of little green army men and patriots soon!  We could build our own Ameva army and send them into battle!  It's all so very exciting!

This specific Ameva is my very favorite!  He gets so super excitied everytime I open his cage!!!  He runs around all crazy, he catches crickets and comes and shows them to me, all the while wiggling his little tail like a puppy in a kindegarten class!  It make me very happy to see them all so excited!

But if we have more????  That's even more excitement and fun!

cross your fingers and wish them luck!

much love,

Vince & Savannah Pull a clutch!

Hey Guys!

The early bird catches the worm and the early employee catches the clutch!

Sometimes the best time to be here is before anyone else is, then you get lucky!  Like his morning for example, Vince and I came in super early because sometimes we like to do extra work and take even better care of all the animals than we already do, and we got to pull a retic clutch!  It was my 1st retic clutch, but Vince is a seasoned professional and Tim was there too so I felt pretty safe.  Mama retics have a lot of spunk when it comes to pulling their eggs, soooooooooooooo Vince did most of the hard work.  All in all it was a beautiful morning and we walked away with about 25 bringht and shiny white and new eggs....

For all of you genetic people all that here is what makes what and whatever

a female genetic stripe + an albino tiger titanium = half a clutch of triple het albino titanium genetic stripes & the other half will be tiger triple het albino titanium genetic stripes

that's a crazy bunch of something

It's official, I'm a Nerd :)

Heeeeeeeeeeeeey Guys!

I've missed ya'll so very much!  I just went on a vacation to Florida to see some awesome and amazing animals!  I think it's really cool that when reptile or animal enthusiasts, breeders, etc come here we welcome them with open arms and that when we go out and about on wild adventures, the same courtesy is extended to us!  Jay for example, just got back from a trip to Europe where he was treated like a king by Mark & Dean at The Reptile Room, and while I was on my trip, Safari Todd and the good folks at Jungle Adventures Nature Park Zoo treated me like a princess!  We are very grateful to all of the wonderful people in our industry that share our love for all things cold and warm blooded.

I've been working here at The Reptile Zoo in beautiful southern California for a while now and I will let you all in on a little secret, when I came to work here, let's just say I knew alot about alligators, and not much else.  Jay and Tim and Lynda have been amazing teachers and I have learned so much without even trying!  A great example of that came about when I was driving my son Gage up to Jacksonville to skate a contest and we passed the billboard for the alligator farm in St. Augustine that just so happened to have a huge retic on it and "OMG! That's a retic" I scream!!!!  and my son says, "Mom, you're a reptile nerd now!"

At that point I thought to myself, no way, that couldn't be true........

Until we pass a gigantic Florida River Cooter on the side of the road and I slam on the breaks and jump out of the car to have my son take a picture of me holding it.  Again, my son goes, "yeah, see, you're a total nerd"

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!  Again I deny it.....

But then we went to see my friend Safari Todd and play with some alligators and while I'm watching his animal presentation I realize that I know waaaaaaaaaaaaay more about animals than I ever wanted to know or wanted to admit..........

And at that point, I decided to embrace it!

I, Savannah Boan, am officially a Nerd, I am accepting it, embracing it and am proud of it.  Thanks to all that have helped me along this journey!

I hope you guys enjoy all the pics!

much love
