INSANITY!!!!

It’s an insane day here at The Reptile Zoo, with over 200 guests already accounted for by 12pm, and that’s JUST the IN STORE parties!  From 10am, an hour before actual opening, to 6pm was stacked with party animals and reptiles too! ;P  With so many people to attend to already, not to mention the customers here for animals purchases, feed, and the zoo; EVERYONE is running around crazy!

Just L@@k at the flood of people attending JUST Nick’s party for Nyaa’s birthday!!

Between parties, the guests in our zoo as well as lingering party people were able to witness one of the FIRST LIVE monitor feeding in their new humble abode!  All that breeding they’ve been doing all week and all DAY sure have worked up a “Monitorus” appetite =P.  An even COOLER happening in the zoo today was a rare sighting indeed.  One of our monitors stayed suburged under water for over 20 minutes!  Just taking a little stroll I suppose, but pretty awesome to witness nonetheless!  VERY RARE sighting!  L@@K!

Later after Nick’s party, I had a blast with Mallory and her friends and family.  Everyone was more than willing to pet and even HOLD majority of all our friendly critters, especially the ARACHNIDS!  Loud and proud the party attendees were chucking out question after question; yelp of excitement and giggles of joy!  I was more than pumped to accommodate their needs and show them a REAL One of a kind experience!

It’s a bird! It’s a Plane! It’s Superman! Nope….it’s BETTER!  It’s everyone’s favorite, blast from the past, Mike McConnell!  Infamous for his courageous and daring antics during his presentations, he has a natural knack for nabbing everyone’s full attention and interest (No it’s not just because he has half a finger ;P).   Across the shop you could hear the excited “Ooh’s” and “aww’s” creeping out of the presentation room, with an occasional “AAAAHHHH!”.

Right when the parties end and we think the madness is over, we look up a BEHOLD!  Waves of Reptile Zoo guests rushing in to check out the zoo and visit Twinkie and Frank!  Today surley was a day to PARTYYY!!  Book your party today and experience the FUN you've been hearing about!  It'S OuT oF CoNtRoL!!! <3

Na-na-na-na-na-na....Batman!

Creature Feature!

The Jurassic Fact of the Week is highlighting our Emperor Scorpions. A very common party animal, these tough little guys are the largest of all scorpions in the world. However, they are the least venomous as well.

Mandy and I dub ours "Batman" and assure the kids that if he did sting, it would be as harmless as a bee sting. The Emperors are naturally docile and actually use their pincers more often than their stinger. However, even THEN they mostly use their pincers to "feel" around their environment with the many tiny hairs that cover them. So, its definitely a great creature for groups of kids...very hardy, and tame. Also, it creates QUITE a stir, especially among moms, when it first comes out!

Emperor Scorpions originate in Africa, and can get about 8 inches long! They eat crickets or super worms mostly...they grab them with their pincers and chew. As tiny tiny babies, they are a strange, almost transparent white and ride on their mom's back all day...what a life. Want to know something really awesome?? Under a blacklight, these critters GLOW turquoise!

Wicked!! Come see some for yourself...hold one...even take one home for $19.99!!

Return of the GIANT Geckos!!

A very happy day here at the Zoo...we have Giant Geckos again!!

The New Caledonian Giant Gecko (Rhacodactylus leachianus), AKA the "Leachie"....is from various islands off the coast of Australia. They greatly resemble the little crested gecko that you know and love, just SUPER-SIZED! Leachies need many of the same things as cresties, but can also eat small mammals and lizards as well. Just to put it in perspective for you, these guys can get over a foot long, making them the largest extant gecko in the world! They are very friendly...but the locals call them the "devil in the trees" for the growling noise they make. :-O

Mandy, Laura, and I dubbed them "Bubbles" and "Squishy" from Finding Nemo. So, everyone will have to come check them out because they are the coolest looking things EVER...especially after seeing little crested geckos for the longest time, haha. But if you are too far, of course we have some great pics for you...

Bubbles!

Squishy!

Their new home!!

Even Garrett's little girl Kira was completely wowed by them...

How adorable!!

See you soon!

Its fun to stay at the.....Y-M-C-A

First off...apologies for the internet troubles we have been having...we should be back up and running now.

So, this past week was even MORE full of kids than usual...is that possible? Why yes...yes, it is.

A rowdy, but super bright, HUGE, group of kids from the YMCA and their counselors joined us on Tuesday for lots of education and reptile fun. Each kid got to learn cool facts about (and even touch) many interesting reptiles during our presentation, and then explore The Zoo! It was a day to remember...even for the counselors, as many were fearful of snakes themselves! Here are some pics from Tuesday, almost packed in like sardines!

Thanks for coming everyone! We know the kids sure had a blast!

ALSO!

We have a new cutie for sale...its called a Cherry-head Red-footed Tortoise. Quite the interesting little fella, and only $179.99. Come check him out!

Candid Camera and a NEW BOA!

Good Evening Party People!

Another busy Saturday completed with a lot of teamwork, energy, and fun! Lots of guests coming in and out....lots of animals out to "play"....and of course, employees hard at work. Here are some action shots, so our viewers can have a "day in the life":

Busy little Bees....

Priscilla, cleaning a cage for a feisty Red Iguana....

Mandy, nervously "taming" a very grumpy Red-tail Boa....

Buck, working on a new enclosure....

Linda, caring for an ill turtle (awwwww)....

Uncle Louie, heading out to the fair! (visit our booth!)

Nick.....umm.....taking a break

So through all the hustle and bustle of a thoroughly busy week, we also got a new addition to The Zoo!!

This is our brand-new, female, Argentine Boa. She is a MASSIVE beauty. They are critically endangered due to habitat loss and degradation, but ongoing efforts include captive reproduction and ultimate reintroduction to surviving environments. The female Argentine Boas are among the heaviest of all boas, reportedly reaching 60 lbs or more. She is definitely a big girl and if we ever get the chance, breeding is high on our list (which would be AWESOME because as a boa, she would give LIVE birth).

She needs a name! So if anyone has a good idea...email me at:

thalia@jurassicparties.com

We will choose the best one and have a name card made for her cage, with the winner's name as well!

Here she is!

She is just gorgeous. So send those names so she can be official!

ALSO...don't forget to stop by our Prehistoric Pets booth at the OC Fair! Get info, look at awesome critters, and hold a Burm! See you there!!

Tiny Dancers?

The newest addition to The Reptile Zoo....Red-Eyed Crocodile Skinks!

These adorable, fascinating little creatures look like tiny little dragons!  They are from the island of New Guinea, and prefer very swampy regions...sometimes at pretty high elevations.  They average about 8-10 inches as adults and commonly have the bright red or orange ring around their eyes.  So cool!

They are extremely gentle and will rarely bite.  They might even play dead if frightened and are VERY convincing.  They eat crickets and worms mostly...but the full grown adult will take the occasional pinky mouse.  My favorite part...other than their eyes...is their head shape.  They have this awesome crested head that looks straight out of a medieval fairy-tale.

In short, these little guys are the coolest things I have seen in awhile.  Just one of the reasons I love my job...the most amazing things come and go here!!

JFW, means its Tuesdayyyy!

Jurassic Fact of the Week Everybody!

So, if you haven't already...let's meet Mandy!  She's our fabulous in-store party girl, Harry Potter fanatic, and has a store "pet"...a Black-Nose Tegu named Rambo!  She loves him and takes great care of him!  That love and enthusiasm is also realized in her party performance.  So here is the interesting fact I snagged from Mandy today, about her party experience:

"I always try to make sure the kids learn the difference between 'venomous' and 'poisonous'...and that animals themselves cannot be 'poisonous'.  Also, I teach them the differences between turtles and tortoises."

Great job Mandy!  Keep up the education!

So, 'come on down to The Reptile Zoo' and meet Mandy...and Rambo!   Not only that...book a party here at the zoo, and Mandy just might be the one to make it super memorable!

Cleaning House!

Hey Guys!

Hoping you all had a super Easter!  We missed you on Sunday but it gave us a good opportunity to do a little spring cleaning!  But just like everything here at The Reptile Zoo we like to make it as fun as possible!  Our animals sometimes like to roam around the shop so kids can pet them and hold them and even sometimes help our staff feed them!  WE love it here at The Reptile Zoo and we want to keep everything in tip top condition so that all of our visitors always come back to see what we have new and exciting!

Snakes are laying eggs all over the place today, I think I've already counted 3 or so clutches!  I'm going to go get to work on that, but in the meantime... Enjoy these pictures of the fabulous Mandy making cleaning time almost as fun as a Jurassic Party!!!!

much love
