Pinterest Worthy Party

Just check out how amazing these deorations are! We were blown away when super organized and creative mom Michel's decor at Riley's Jurassic Party in The Reptile Zoo.

Every detail was dealt with impeccably including brightly colored decor that perfectly balanced the already present jungle themed bamboo and leaf decor.

She also incorporated some of the great options we have on our Prehistoric.com party supply website including our ever popular wooden wiggle snakes. Which depending on the quantity you would like can cost as low as $1 each.

At the end of the day fun was had by all from the yummy snacks to exciting hands-on reptile presentation, with hand sanitation between of course! We love sharing photos from our fans. If you've had a Jurassic Party just send your photos to feedback@jurassicparties.com and we'll feature them here on The Reptile Zoo blog or directly on our Facebook page.

It's ALWAYS time to party at the Reptile Zoo

When you work in a Reptile Zoo, you know that every day is going to bring with it something new, excitng and educational, we are always learning more and more about our animals here and in the wild. But what some people don't realise is just how much fun it is to share some of this information with customers every day, and whats even more exciting is when you get to share it with a room full of overly excited children that are here for a birthday party.

Jurassic Parties is a company within a company, so to speak, and we do all kinds of parties here! You can bring your party to us or we can bring the party to you, whichever you choose, you are guaranteed a very exciting and memorable experince.

Just this morning Jurassic Parties and the Reptile Zoo were buzzing with party fever as some of our crew headed off to a birthday party in soemone's own home, and some of our team got ready to greet the 30 guests here for a little boy's party! When they arrived at the Reptile Zoo, we were delighted to see lots of smiling faces, super excited moms, and some nervous looking dads, who couldn't wait to meet our animals.

To start the party guests ate lots of pizza in one of our dedicated party rooms, and began their presentation at about midday. We started off small with a Ball Python, and once they were all comfortable, we moved on to tarantulas, geckos, scorpions, corn snakes and a Black Throat monitor that goes by the name of Bane, and for some reason smells like maple syrup!

We finished up our hour-long presentaion by letting all the children line up and hold a Burmese Python, all the moms and dads got some great photos and everyone had a great time. The kids (and some sneaky grown ups) then relaxed and enjoyed some home made brownies in the special party room!

Getting to see the excited look on these kid's faces as they got to hold and touch some of these animals is truly priceless and one of the most rewarding parts of this job!

We just love Jurassic Parties here at the Reptile Zoo, so why not have a party with a differnece this year, check us out on facebook or twitter for some great special offers and lots of updates and pictures!

Color Me Rad at The Reptile Zoo

We knew our visitors to The Reptile Zoo were smart, but how could we have guessed they were soo creative too! A couple months ago we added a coloring station to the hands-on fun at The Reptile Zoo and since then we have been amazed by the rad art our guests have made. We provide the template, a playful cartoon illustration of Thelma & Louise one of the two-headed snake, but they provide the style! Some take the approach of Picasso, some Warhol, some Pollock, and some have a style all their own. These pieces of art are so unique we decided to make our own virtual museum to showcase their talents. Visit www. Facebook.com/TheReptileZoo to check out our fan art or better yet stop by The Reptile Zoo in person and make your own art to add to the collection!

Skinks for Sale!

We've recently celebrated the births of 14 Blue Tongue Skinks. They're cute, they're scaly, and they're so gosh darn little! But what exactly IS a Blue Tongue Skink?

Their most obvious characteristic is their name which comes from their tongue; it is indeed blue. Whoever first discovered this species decided to keep it simple with its name!

In recent years, this lizard has become a common pet among reptile enthusiasts. They stay relatively small, only growing up to about 2 feet in length usually. We're fans of this species too as they are quirky enough to fit in with our other critters, but unique enough to stand out as a favorite among staff and guests alike.

In the wild, they spend their days eating diets of insects, snails, wild berries, and sometimes even wildflowers. Night is spent seeking shelter in hollowed out logs and other debris where they aren't very likely to be discovered an eaten as a midnight snack.

Supposedly, these creatures are shy, but ours are far from it! In fact, we have a team of them that love being in the spotlight at our Jurassic Parties. Several more soak up the attention in The Reptile Zoo.

As you can see, the Blue Tongue Skink isn't exactly built for speed. Its legs are stubby, and definitely not meant for running or climbing. Still, when it comes time to eat or make a run for it, they can perform the task with surprising agility. Since they call Australia home, it's not a stretch to assume they call on this agility quite often with so many deadly predators lurking about.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about them is that they give birth to live young. Baby Blue Tongue Skinks will develop in embryos inside of their mother and when they are fully developed after about 100 days, they emerge in litters of up to 15! For the first few days of their life, the babies will live off of their embryo which they absorb into their stomachs before birth, then they start off on smaller insects. Much like human babies, they ease their way into devouring adult foods!

Our little ones are ready to take on the world; some of them are for sale in Prehistoric Pets. They grow up so quickly!

If you need a new lizard for your collection, come check them out!

Here's a video to help you do some preliminary research...or just learn more about these little guys.
